LONDON – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Safdar have decided to return to Pakistan to face corruption charges against Sharif family on Sunday.
In an informal discussion with media on Saturday, Sharif said that he would not run away from courts like former army chief General (r) Pervez Musharraf.
The PML-N supremo, who now holds the status of party’s ‘Quaid for Life’ (Leader for life), stressed that the caretaker government should work according to the law.
Upset with the rumours of martial law, Nawaz Sharif asserted that the nation should consider the upcoming general elections as a referendum.
Earlier, the leadership of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) held an important meeting in London.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and the two sons of Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz.
The meeting was held at the office of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz and important decisions were taken in the meeting.
Talking to media, PM Abbasi avoided giving the response on court decision pertaining to rejecting a plea of former premier Nawaz Sharif seeking exemption from personal appearance.
On the other hand, Hussain Nawaz declared the court decision unfortunate.
As many as three corruption references had been filed against the Sharif family, on the directives of the top court which pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.
