Aamir Liaquat accuses PPP workers of tearing apart his clothes

KARACHI – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aamir Liaquat Husain was allegedly tortured by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers while he was trying to resolve the tension between workers of both the parties outside the Aziz Bhatti Police Station in Karachi.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when party leaders flanked by their workers reached the police station to lodge cases against each other after they were engaged in clashes at the Hakeem Saeed Ground in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.

Allegedly, the PPP worker tortured televangelist and PTI leader Amir Liaquat, hurled abuses at him and then tore apart his shirt.

Irked by the incident, Aamir Liaquat requested the police to take stern action against the culprits,however, it refused to register complaints of both the parties, saying FIR would be registered after a proper investigation only.

The violence stemmed out over holding the political rallies on May 12 at the same venue in Pakistan’s port city.

The day is also observed as ‘black day’ in the backdrop of a series of violent clashes between workers of different political parties in 2007, that left over 40 people dead.
