Shoddy construction leads to collapse of multi-storey plaza in Lahore

LAHORE – A three-storey plaza located in an upscale neighbourhood of Punjab’s capital city, Lahore catastrophically collapsed due to structural failures.

The building which contained an office of a leading appliance manufacturer was located in the Bahria Town society of Lahore and it came down in a matter of few seconds.

A few of the bystanders captured the moments when the commercial centre flattened on Saturday.

Fortunately, there was no casualty reported in the incident, however, the collapse resulted in financial loss, ranging in millions.

The plaza was located in the C block of the society and also housed a snooker club ‘7 Nights Cue Club’ on its topmost floor.

According to civil engineers and architectural experts, the building lacked pile foundation which became an apparent reason for the incident.

The plot adjacent to the plaza was excavated extensively which disturbed the balance of the soil beneath the plaza, following which it developed cracks and finally caved in.

The housing society has launched investigations into the incident.
