KARACHI (Staff Report) – Director World Bank, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal has been selected as new Director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, sources told Daily Pakistan.
Official sources told this scribe here on Saturday that the high level search committee recommended his name for the top slot of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) on the basis of his previous track record.
The Search Committee has given highest marks to Dr Farrukh Iqbal and a summary in this regard has been completed and sent for chief minister’s house for signature. “After this process, the summary will be sent to Governor Sindh for final approval and notification,” the sources said.
When asked about the expected date of the appointment, the official said the decision now rested with the Governor House’s office.
It is important to note that of the three shortlisted candidates for this post, the Search Committee gave preference to Dr Iqbal, followed by Dr Qasir Bengali and Professor Qazi Masood.
Dr Farrukh has had more than thirty years of research and management experience in the World Bank across a diverse range of countries and sectors. Among countries, he has worked in Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, China, Iran, Egypt and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
He has worked and published on various aspects of economic development including growth, poverty, small and medium enterprises, trade and foreign investment, health insurance, local government development and political economy issues.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University USA.
Presently, Dr Sayeed Ghani has been working as the Acting Dean and Director of IBA Karachi.
Earlier, Dr Ishrat served IBA Karachi as Dean and Director for eight years.
