LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board has invited former Pakistani skipper and flamboyant all rounder Shahid Afridi to take part in the fourth T20 international against West Indies being played on Tuesday.
According to PCB sources, Afridi has been roped in for the last T20 in a bid to help him get out of depression after his detachment from Peshawar Zalmi.
“Another good news for Afridi fans is that the 37-year-old all-rounder will be presented a grand farewell after the fourth T20′, the sources added.
PCB has reportedly intensified arrangements for the farewell and has dispatched invitation letters to cricketing legend Imran Khan and prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
Afridi, when contacted by our correspondent expressed joy over PCB’s decision and extended gratitude to the incumbent government and especially to the prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He also maintained that it was PCB’s magnanimity to recall him for a match and confirmed his participation in T20 to be played at Queen’s Park Oval.
Shahid Afridi has played 398 One Day Internationals and scored 8,064 runs, with a highest score of 124. He falls short of 5 wickets to secure an overall 400 total wickets. He shot to fame with his 37-ball century, the fastest one (till 2014) against Sri-Lanka back in 1996.
His T20 career was also brief as he played 98 matches with 1405 runs and 97 wickets. During his 21-year long career, Afridi always managed to see lady luck smiling on him as he remained the most sought-after star of his masses despite controversies.
