New Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah extends Rangers powers in Karachi after long delay
KARACHI – Newly elected Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah today approved the extension of Rangers' special policing powers in the province, granting a year-long stay to Rangers in Karachi while extending their policing powers for 90 days.

The Chief Minister ordered the Home Department to formally notify the extension without any delay.

The extension has come a day after the CM's Dubai meeting with former president and Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Zardari, in which the party chief reportedly gave his assent to the extension of Rangers' powers in Sindh.

The paramilitary force’s right to detain suspects without any charge in Sindh expired on July 19 and extension of those powers has long been a source of friction between the federal and provincial authorities.
