ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would be conducting the hearing of petitions that seek disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in the wake of the disclosures of the Panama Papers, on Wednesday (Today).
The Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Awami Muslim League and Pakistan Awami Tehreek had filed references against the Premier and his family seeking their disqualification.
The 72-page reference filed by PTI leader Yasmin Rashid, on June 24, stated that the prime minister had not mentioned the offshore investments revealed in the Panama Papers in his statements of assets submitted to the ECP at the time of the elections of 2013. Yasmin gave a tough time to Nawaz Sharif for NA-120 tussle in elections 2013
Likewise, PPP submitted reference against the Prime Minister, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Captain (R) Muhammad Safdar accusing them of concealing their assets.
The reference filed by PAT’s supremo Dr. Tahir Ul Qadri under Articles 62 & 63 contended that the loyalty of the prime minister to the state of Pakistan was also doubtful therefore, he must be disqualified.
Awami Muslim League chairman Sheikh Rasheed also threw his weight behind other parties by filing an application to ECP in July in which he stated that the Prime Minister was no more qualified to remain a legislator.
