Happy birthday Wasim Akram: Swing king completes 50

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Swing King Wasim Akram, remembered by fans as ‘ one of the “Sultans of Swing”, turned 50 today (on Friday).

The retired left-arm pacer took to Twitter to thank his friends and fans for wishing him well.

Born on the 3rd of June 1966 in Lahore, he began his cricketing career in the 80’s and retired in the year 2003. He is considered to be a core player in the team that bagged the World Cup for Pakistan in 1992, still considered to be the country’s greatest cricketing glory.


During his career, Wasim was the highest wicket-taker in ODIs with 502 scalps but was surpassed 6 years after retirement by Muttiah Muralitharan in 2009. He was also one of the rare talents to have never played first-class cricket before making his debut for Pakistan.
