ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Pakistan government on Tuesday decided to confer the gallantry award on the martyrs of Peshawar’s Army Public School posthumously.
According to details, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has advised President Mamnoon Hussain to approve the conferment of Sitara-e-Shujaat and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on those who were martyred in the attack in December last year.
The recipients of the award include 122 students, two teachers and 20 school staff members.
The Sitara-i-Shujaat (Order of Bravery) is the third-most prestigious civilian award, while the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence) is the fourth-highest civilian award in Pakistan.
Past recipients of the Sitara-i-Shujaat include Malala Yousafzai and Dr. Parween Rehman, a human rights activist, while the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz has been previously conferred on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a Pakistani documentary film-maker and Oscar Award winner.
