ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Imran Khan, the cricketer-turned-politician who headed Pakistani team which won 1992 World Cup, has urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adopt a policy of merit to improve the cricketing talent.
Reacting to Pakistan’s humiliating defeat by Bangladesh which resulted in its exit from Asia Cup 2016, he said that Pakistani cricket fans’ anger at unceremonious exit of Pak[istani] team From T20 Asia Cup is understandable as our nation is oozing with talent. However, this talent can only be polished if PCB becomes an institution built on merit, incl[uding] selection of its Head purely on merit, he added.
In a series of tweets, Imran Khan also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for promoting anti-merit policy in appointment of PCB chief.
“But how can we expect this PM to select PCB chief on merit when all org[anisation]s are being headed by cronies/p[eo]pl[e] rewarded for services to Sharifs,” he said on micro-blogging tweets.
He further added that even with the current team, if the correct combinations are played there is enough talent for success.
