ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday against the accountability court’s order to release retired Capt Safdar on bail.
Captain Safdar who was taken into custody at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on October 9 was granted bail by the accountability court, the same day.
In its petition, the accountability watchdog asked the IHC to suspend the accountability court’s order that directed NAB to release Safdar on bail after he submitted surety bonds worth Rs5 million.
The graft buster pleaded that Captain Safdar be sent to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on judicial remand making him and the accountability court judge Muhamamd Bashir, respondents in the petition.

The NAB petition stated that an order to release the suspect can only be passed by the Supreme Court, and that the accountability court exceeded its judicial reach as it should have sent Capt Safdar to jail.
Let it be known that Captain Safdar, along with his wife Maryam Nawaz and former premier Nawaz Sharif appeared before the accountability court in Islamabad in corruption references pertaining to London flats and offshore assets.
The accountability court adjourned the hearing till November 7 as the IHC had ordered to club the references together on a petition filed by Nawaz Sharif.
