LAHORE – Students across Pakistan’s public and private schools could be in for a long weekend from September 14 to 16, depending on the sighting of the moon for the Islamic month of Rabiul Awal.
The Central Ruet Hilal Committee is set to convene tomorrow, September 4, to determine the beginning of Rabiul Awal. If the moon is sighted, the first day of Rabiul Awal will be observed on Wednesday, September 5, with Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) expected to fall on Monday, September 16.
Eid Miladun Nabi, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is a national holiday across Pakistan. Should the holiday fall on Monday, September 16, students will benefit from an extended weekend, as schools will already be closed on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15. This would result in three consecutive days off for students.
However, if the moon is not sighted, Eid Miladun Nabi will likely be observed on Tuesday, September 17, altering the potential for the long weekend. The final decision rests on tomorrow’s moon sighting, which will determine whether students will indeed enjoy the anticipated three-day break.
