ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his concerns regarding the fairness of upcoming general elections on Friday, vowing that no delay in the practice would be tolerated.
In an informal discussion with newsmen outside the accountability court, the former premier asserted that his arch-rival, Imran Khan has alluded to a delay in the elections in the backdrop of declining popularity, a vindication of which was Minar-e-Pakistan rally.
The Supreme Leader of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz also drew a comparison between his regular appearances before the accountability court and acquittal of Imran Khan in SSP Junejo torture case, decrying that he was not allowed to visit his ailing wife, while Khan was let off the hook despite no-show.
Maryam Nawaz went a step further in her commentary regarding Imran Khan’s case and said that the directives must have come ‘from the top’.
Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam appeared before the accountability court Judge Muhammad Bashir for the Avenfield Reference hearing.
Earlier, an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan in SSP Asmatullah Junejo attack case.
Imran Khan did not show up in the last hearing despite summons, however, the ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand ruled in his favour today (Friday) primarily due to the reason that no police witnesses including SSP Asmat Ullah Junejo deposed against PTI supremo.
