Eid-ul-Fitr: Bahrain releases 82 Pakistani prisoners under royal pardon

ISLAMABAD – Bahrain has released 82 Pakistani prisoners under a royal pardon granted by King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa on Eid-ul-Fitr. The pardon was reportedly secured the release of the prisoners, according to a Foreign Office spokesperson issuing a statement on Tuesday.

The release of a huge number of Pakistanis is the result of efforts of Ambassador Javed Malik who personally visited the inmates in May 2016 and took up the matter with the relevant authorities in Bahrain, the spokesperson added.

Media reports suggest that the prisoners will soon be united with their families as efforts are now underway to repatriate them to Pakistan.
