CAPTE TOWN – South Africa’s captain Faf du Plessis has been suspended for one Test and fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while all his players have been fined 10 per cent of their match fees, for maintaining a slow over-rate during Proteas’ nine-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Cape Town Test.
Now the host will be without regular skipper in the third and final Test against Pakistan in Johannesburg – starting January 11.
The sanctions were imposed by Match Referee David Boon after South Africa were found to be one over short in their Sunday’s victory after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
The punishment for Du Plessis is a result of a second minor over-rate offence within a period of 12 months. Du Plessis had been found guilty of a similar offence during the Centurion Test against India that took place in January 2018.
