According to spokesperson Pakistan Armed Forces, Major General Asif Ghafoor, the prime minister will be briefed on the security situation of Pakistan’s land-wise biggest province, Baluchistan at Headquarters Southern Command.

The military chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa has also arrived in the city.

During his visit, the prime minister would also meet parliamentarians and representatives of the civil society.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ch. Fawad Hussain, Minister for Planning and Development Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, provincial political leadership, special assistants to PM on media and political affairs are also accompanying the prime minister.

This is the first tour of premier Imran Khan to Balochistan after assuming charge and holds crucial importance as the province faces violence sporadically owing to the subversive activities carried out by foreign spy agencies.

Indian spy agent Kulbhushan Jadhav was also arrested from the same province back in 2016 against whom a case is being heard by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is in a coalition government in the province, with Jam Kamal serving as the chief minister.

A day earlier, Kamal assured the provincial assembly that he would take up the issue of delay in the announcement of National Finance Commission (NFC) Award with the federal government.

He said the increased funds received under the NFC award would put the province on the path of development. It was the collective issue of the people and the opposition members’ positive suggestions could not be ignored, he added.
