Pakistani national living in Canada held for ‘planning terror attack in NYC’

TORONTO – A Pakistani national living in Canada has been held for allegedly planning terror attack in New York City.

Reports in local media said Canadian and American officials detained man identified as Muhammad Shahzeb Khan for allegedly plotting terror attack on Jewish communities in New York City.

Shahzeb Khan, 20, was apprehended near the US border in eastern Canadian province of Quebec, as he allegedly planned rifle attack either on anniversary of October 7 Hamas attack on Israel or during Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

It was reported that the accused conspired with undercover agents, asking them to acquire weapons and discussing the potential scale of the attack, which he claimed could be the largest since Sept. 11 attacks.

He also paid a human trafficker to help him cross border. He is now facing charges of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist outfit. If convicted, Shahzeb will face couple of decades behind bars, with the final sentence to be determined by a federal district court judge based on sentencing guidelines and other relevant factors.

US Attorney General Merrick Garland said Khan’s objective was to kill as many Jewish people as possible, acting on behalf of Daesh.
