Former CJ hints at becoming party in rigging inquiry

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The former chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, on Wednesday expressed his readiness to become party in the judicial commission formed to investigate the allegations of rigging in general elections 2013 if PTI Chief Imran Khan repeats his accusations against him.

PTI chief Imran Khan has been time and again blaming the former chief justice for his involvement in rigging the general elections 2013, who has also filed a defamation suit of worth Rs 20 billion against him.

Chuadhry, in his immediate reaction after the chief justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk announced a three-member commission to look into the matter, said “I am ready to testify before the court and will definitely become a party in the case if anybody submits any allegation against me”.

He once again rejected the allegations of PTI Chief Imran Khan. “I am all clean at this matter”, he said of the rigging.

He added I have filed a defamation law suit against PTI chief over his allegations of my involvement in rigging the general elections of 2013.

Earlier Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk formed a three member judicial commission to investigate the allegations of rigging in general election 2013.

The judicial commission will be headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk whereas the other two members are Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Amir Muslim Hani.

The first formal session of the commission will be held on Thursday at 1 PM in the building of Supreme Court in Islamabad.

The commission has been constituted after the president of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain issued an order on April 3 addressing to the chief justice to form a three member judicial commission to look into the allegations of rigging in the general polls of 2013.

The commission will complete its assigned task within the next 45 days.
