PM Nawaz to represent Pakistan at Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana today

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will represent Pakistan in the two-day meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) going to be held today at Astana in Kazakhstan.

The Prime Minister accompanied Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Trade Minister Khurram Dastgir, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affaris Sartaj Aziz and others left for Astana today.

As per schedule, the Prime Minister will hold meeting with heads of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan today, and will have a meeting with Russian President Valdmir Putin and Magnolia President on June 9.

Pakistan has been observer at SCO since 2005, and now it will become a full member at Astana. Pakistan had applied for the full membership in 2010.

However, the SCO heads in 2015 decided to give Pakistan the status of a full member during a meeting at Ufa in Russia.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister will take part in a number of bilateral meetings with other participating leaders.

The PM also set to attend the inaugural ceremony of the International Expo 2017 which is also being hosted by Kazakhstan.

After the SCO membership, Pakistan will be capable of getting regional cooperation to end terrorism an extremism.

India will also get full membership of the SCO in the upcoming Summit in Astana. Pakistan and India will hold the ranks of current members Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
