Without proper laws, women will keep on being burnt alive: Sharmeen Obaid

KARACHI (Staff Report) – Renowned filmmaker and Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has said that unless there is a proper legislation against honor killings, women will keep on being burnt alive in Pakistan.

Referring to the incident of Zeenat Rafiq who was burnt in Lahore yesterday, she expressed that such incidents take place every day in Pakistan and the culprits are rarely, if ever, punished.

Sharmeen suggested exemplary sentences for people involved in honor killing, adding that everyone in the country should be concerned about increasing incidents of honor killing.

She also called for the imprisonment of the mother who set her daughter to fire in Lahore for marrying against her wishes.
