ISLAMABAD – Barrister Gohar Ali, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been released from police custody, according to Islamabad police officials. He was discharged from the case registered at the Sangjani police station.
Barrister Gohar Ali was apprehended yesterday by Islamabad police outside the Parliament House. In a related development, PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat was also arrested outside the Parliament. Additionally, PTI leaders including Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal, and Shoaib Shaheen were taken into custody.
The PTI leaders faced charges under sections of the Assembly and Public Order Act 2024, including interference in government duties, vandalism, and violation of Section 144. Cases were filed at three different police stations: Noon, Sangjani, and another undisclosed location.
The arrests followed a PTI rally held in Islamabad on Sunday. The district administration had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) allowing the rally to continue until 7 PM, but the event extended beyond this timeframe. During the rally near the 26 Number Chungi, clashes occurred between participants and the police. The protesters reportedly threw stones, prompting the police to respond with tear gas.
The release of Barrister Gohar Ali comes amid ongoing scrutiny and tensions surrounding political demonstrations and public order enforcement in the capital.
