ISLAMABAD – The opposition leader in National Assembly, Sayed Khursheed Shah has said that the decisions regarding the political career of politicians should be made in parliament adding that some circles have damaged the credibility of parliament by giving power into the hands of others.
The PPP bigwig while expressing his views over the verdict of SC, disqualifying the former Prime Minister Nawaz and PTI leader Jahangir Tareen for life, said that the laws and decisions should be made in parliament in accordance with the constitution of 1973.
“This is parliament which must guide other departments but unfortunately, some elements have damaged the credibility of this institute,” the PPP’s leader said adding that now the verdict has been announced so Nawaz Sharif should accept it with an open heart.
He further said that it was Nawaz Sharif who moved court on Panama Papers case instead of referring it to parliament, remarking that had they (PML-N) not avoided the process of legislation in assemblies, they would not have seen this day.
It is worth mentioning that a five-member bench of the top court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah voted 5-0 in favour of lifetime disqualification, though the proposal before the apex court was to reduce the embargo for 8 years.
The top court had reserved the verdict after successive hearings on February 14th after clubbing as many as 17 petitions.
With Friday’s verdict, both Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen have been declared ineligible to contest general elections.
