LAHORE (Staff Report) – Around 23 fire brigade units, including 150 firefighters, from the Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur and Sheikhupura District Governments tried to put out the flames, and finally they become successful after 17 hours.
At least six people were injured after an intense fire broke out at the first floor of a multi-storey departmental store Al-Fatah in liberty market , rescue sources said Monday.
The fire also reached to the neigbouring buildings.
Rescue workers said they were trying to evacuate the building as fire had spread to the second floor as well. However, owner of the building said nobody was present at the second floor.
According to latest reports, the fire has worked its way up to the third floor of the building.
DCO Lahore Captain Usman said all rescue agencies are cooperating to control the fire. He could not say if people were still trapped inside the building but did confirm that ‘Rescue 1122’ had rescued 114 people from the building.
Last year in February, the same building caught fire and goods worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes. However no casualties were reported because nobody was present at the store when the fire began at approximately in wee hours.
The building’s upper floors were completely burned, however firefighters managed to save valuables from the basement and ground floor.
