ISLAMABAD – The government and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday failed to reach a consensus over a two-year extension to military courts in the fifth meeting.
Talking to media PPP’s Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said, “There has been no development on the issue so far, and we have not reached a point regarding the draft bill yet.”
Headed by Ahsan, a four-member PPP team comprising Farooq Naek, Sherry Rehman and Naveed Qamar met government’s leaders, including Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Law Minister Zahid Hamid, whereas National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq facilitated the debate.
He added that there is no chance that PPP will hold the discussion with the government to negotiate the proposal.
It may be mentioned here that the PPP had given nine suggestions regarding the military courts in which it demanded a one-year extension to the courts.
Earlier, the government had presented the 28th Constitutional Amendment Bill and the Army Act Amendment Bill 2017 regarding the military courts for developing the consensus of all political parties, but the PPP had rejected them.
