ISLAMABAD – Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Wednesday called for a parliamentary commission to probe revelations made by Hussain Haqqani in an article published by the Washington Post on March 10.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) and Pakistan  Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supported the suggestion, besides asking to make the Memogate Commission’s report public.
Asif said that an open inquiry should be conducted for the allegations levelled by the Haqqani regarding the providing aid to U.S. for carrying out a raid in Abbottabad for capturing Osama Bin Laden.
Responding to Haqqani’s allegation, the defence minister said in the House that Haqqani, who has been serving as Pakistan’s ambassador to U.S., has not targeted the national security for the first time, adding that he named Asif Ali Zardari and Yousuf Raza Gilani in the case for the first time.
During the session, Asif also denied rumours that a Pakistan Army troops were being posted to defend Saudi Arabia’s borders.
