Lahoris in distress as police fail to combat crimes

LAHORE – The police of Punjab’s capital city have failed to protect people as several incidents of banditry, theft and snatching were registered in last eight months, inflicting a loss of more than Rs 2 billion to the masses.

According to statistics, more than 17000 cases of crime were registered from January 2018 to August 2018, implying that the police were unable to protect the public at large.

An exclusive report by Daily Pakistan, which has laid bare the efficiency of law enforcers, suggests that on average 3 citizens lose their belongings every hour, leaving a question mark on Police’ performance in the biggest city of the province.

According to police record, 20 attempts of murder were recorded in the last eight months while there was one incident of dacoity at the petrol pump, 14 at the roadside, 28 at residencies and 18 at shops.

The police registered 144 incidents of robbery, 3060 cases of burglary, 30 cases of car snatching, 737 incidents of car theft, 429 incidents of motorbike snatching and 3329 incidents of planned motorbike robbery under Pakistan Penal Code’s section 382.

The police also registered 87 incidents of cycle theft, 10 incidents of wire theft, 136 case of cattle theft, 15 incidents of tree theft, 316 incidents of bag snatching, 320 indents of mobile snatching and other 4000 plus cases in last eight months of the current year.

When contacted, the Lahore police chief said the department has recovered more than one billion rupees, however, he also issued instructions to operations and investigation wings to thwart crime rate and arrest the criminals involved in heinous activities.
