ISLAMABAD – Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has expedited mailing of books and other study material to its around seven lakh enrolled students in various parts of the country for the autumn 2016 semester.
As per the instructions of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Shahid Siddiqui the employees of the Mailing Department are working in two shifts to ensure timely receipt of the books by the students, a University’s official said.
The move is aimed at giving enough study time to the students enabling them to submit their course assignments within a stipulated time.
Books along with allied material to thirty-thousand students of Matric, forty thousand students of FA and thirty thousand students of BA programs have already been dispatched. Efforts are being made to complete the whole mailing process by the end of December, the official added.
The process has been undertaken in collaboration with Pakistan Post, which has set up its permanent office here at the University’s main campus. The Post office will ensure books-delivery within 36-hours of its dispatch.
A timeline has been fixed to ensure timely availability of books to the students. A new computerised tracking system has been introduced, facilitating its thousands of students to check books’ mailing status.
A new website (mailing.aiou.edu.pk) has been launched for this purpose. A student could easily find out the books’ mailing position by entering his roll number or admission’s challan number in the mailbox.
In order to transform the mailing system, it was also decided to send a text message to students on their cellphone as soon as books are dispatched on given postal address.
As per current practices, all books are sent to the students through postal services. For facilitating the students, postage registry number and roll numbers have been kept same.
The students have been advised to contact their relevant post offices in case of delay in the books’ delivery.
The relevant staff has also been advised to ensure accuracy in the mailing system to avoid any inconvenience at the students’ level.-Online
