ISLAMABAD – The seventh case of monkeypox has been reported in Pakistan.
According to media reports, a person arriving from Saudi Arabia in Islamabad has tested positive for monkeypox.
The patient, a 44-year-old resident of Gujarat, Punjab, is currently at PIMS Hospital in Islamabad, where his condition is reported to be improving.
In Karachi, tests on three passengers arriving at the airport did not confirm monkeypox, and they have been sent home.
It is noteworthy that last month, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a public health emergency.
According to the WHO, monkeypox has spread to 121 countries, with 500 deaths reported this year. The death rate for monkeypox in high-risk groups and individuals with weakened immune systems can be as high as 10%.
