MQM says no big deal as Rangers slap FIR on Altaf

KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Rangers on Tuesday registered an FIR against Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain for his derogatory remarks and life threats to officials of the paramilitary force.

 

The FIR was lodged with the Civil Lines Police Station by Colonel Tahir, the spokesperson for the Rangers, under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The FIR was registered after senior police officials okayed the application, filed by the paramilitary force, under Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

 

Altaf Hussain had, after the Rangers’ raid on the MQM headquarters, Nine-Zero,  fired salvos against the paramilitary force while talking to a private television, the FIR said.

“Jin afsaraan ne mere ghar pr chappa mara, woh thay ho jayenge (those officials who raided my home will be no more),” Hussain had said.

Syed Ali Raza Abidi, who is sitting MNA of MQM and also a member of standing committee for Information Technology and Communications, immediately after the FIR was registered reacted to the development at his twitter feed.

 

 

Another MQM lawmaker, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, remarked that the registration of case was not a new thing.  “Cases have been registered against the MQM chief before, and he was also put behind the bars, so it was no big deal,” he remarked, while adding, “My party is not afraid if more cases are brought against us.”

In all, 72 cases were registered against the MQM chief before the National Reconciliation Ordinance was passed in July 2009.

 

This is the first FIR registered against the MQM chief since the operation against the party in 1992.
