RAWALPINDI – Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called for an immediate action against the members of religious groups staging a sit-in near Faizabad for over a week.
In his first meeting with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, since the latter assumed the office, Nisar expressed that the people of Rawalpindi and Islamabad had been facing severe problems because of the sit-in, adding that nobody should be allowed to resort to lawlessness and make the general public suffer at the busiest artery of Islamabad.
The former security czar said that not only the people of adjoining areas but also the entire country were suffering because of the slow pace of work on the metro project at motorway.
‘There was a need not only to speed up the construction work but also to provide the people with alternative routes to ease their problems’ he conveyed to premier Abbasi.
Let it be known that the Islamabad High Court had ordered the protesters, mainly comprising Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan members to call off the sit-in.
Hearing a petition filed by Maulana Allah Wasaya against the manipulation of Khatam e Nabuuwat clause (which was later amended) of Electoral Reforms Bill 2017, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui issued directives for calling off the strike, that had virtually paralyzed the city from last 8 days, however, the protesters are still occupying the space.
On the other hand, the National Assembly on Thursday restored the Khatam e Nabuuwat clause in its original form after amending the Election Reforms Bill 2017.
