KARACHI – The Punjab police have refused to hand over the suspected ‘knifeman’ arrested from Mandi Bahauddin in connection with a spree of attacks in Karachi offering limited access to Sindh police officials.
The Sindh police in coordination with Punjab police officials had nabbed the perceived prime suspect of knife attacks ‘Waseem’ on Sunday but now the officials in Punjab are not relocating the suspect, who is to be interrogated for a dozen cases of the same nature.
‘The Punjab police have provided limited access to Sindh police for interrogating the suspect,’ said a police officer in conversation with Dawn News.
On anonymity, the official disclosed that the relevant authorities in Sindh have been informed that the suspect would first undergo investigations regarding recent attacks on women in Lahore.
Reportedly, the Lahore police took away the suspect for interrogation as two incidents of knife attacks had taken place in Lahore on October 11.
The unknown knife attacker has stirred panic in Pakistan’s biggest city owing to burgeoning attacks targeted at women.
Between Sept 25 and Oct 5, as many as 13 women with different backgrounds and age groups had been stabbed and injured in various localities of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The Karachi police had so far registered at least 10 FIRs under charges of assaulting modesty of women and also invoked Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, against the suspect(s).
