Sahibzada Jahangir refuses to take charge as PM s assistant on foreign investment

LONDON – Sahibzada Amir Jahangir, who was recently appointed by Prime Minister Imran Khan as his special assistant on foreign investment, has refused to take charge citing criticism on social media.

Jahangir was accused of alleged financial fraud in London; the critics also took aim at the premier for appointing his aides at crucial positions. Renowned journalist Sana Bucha had also alleged that the PTI leader was banned from all casinos.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Jahangir stated that he would not take charge in view of the fake allegations and media propaganda to malign his character and dignity.

‘It is an honorary assignment. I would take no salary or benefits,’ said the London-based politician.

Jahangir continued that in his personal capacity, he would continue to bring foreign investment to Pakistan.

Jahangir, who is the brother of Pakistan Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Fauzia Kasuri, was appointed under Rule 4(6) of the 1973 Rules of Business which says that there may be a special assistant or special assistants to the prime minister with such status and functions as may be determined by the prime minister.

This was the third high-profile appointment to look after the investment portfolio. Earlier this month, the government appointed Haroon Sharif as chairman of the Board of Investment with the status of minister of state.

Also, Abdul Razak Dawood was given the portfolio of adviser to PM on commerce, industry, and investment.
