K-Electric to compensate child who lost arms to high tension wire

KARACHI – The power utility of Pakistan’s port city, K-Electric, will extend all possible support to a child who lost his hands after high tension wires fell on him.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator and Chairman Senate Committee on Human Rights, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the commission took the notice of the incident and directed K-electric to compensate the affected family.

Both arms of an eight-year-old boy, Muhammad Umar, had to be amputated after a high-tension wire of K-Electric fell on him outside his home on the third day of Eidul Azha. A team of doctors at Civil Hospital Karachi’s Burns Centre managed to save the child’s life after hours-long efforts.

The senator announced that K-electric will support the child in following ways:

  • K electric will give Rs 5 million in damages to the family
  • Rs 25000 per month
  • A job when the child grows up
  • All educational expenses of Umer
  • All medical expenses of the victim

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has also initiated legal proceedings against K-Electric on failure to maintain its distribution network which caused the amputation of both arms of an eight-year-old boy.
