LAHORE (Web Desk) – The local body elections across Punjab will take place on party basis and candidates for Chairman and Vice Chairman will jointly contest the election. An amendment ordinance in this regard has been issued by the Punjab government after consultation with the Election Commission.
According to details, the number of ballot papers per voter has been reduced from six to two. The amended ordinance allows political parties as well as the independent candidates to contest the election, Dunya News cited.
The candidates of the political parties will be able to obtain and use election symbols of their respective parties whereas the independent candidates will get other election symbols.
Each candidate will be given two ballot papers to vote; one for Chairman and Vice Chairman while the other for General Counselor candidates. The election on special seats, however, will take place indirectly. The election on those seats will be styled like Cantonment elections.
