Imprisoned Sharif suffered heart attack but family not informed, claims Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader, Maryam Nawaz claimed on Saturday that the former premier Nawaz Sharif suffered a third heart attack while he was in jail but the family was kept in the dark.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the politician flashed a discharge certificate stating last July Nawaz Sharif had suffered a heart attack, complaining that the government and jail authorities had displayed negligence.

Maryam stated when she and her father were in jail last year, she had been asked to convince Nawaz to visit the hospital but he had initially refused because he [Nawaz] did not want to leave her alone in jail.

The politician expressed that she was worried and could sense something was wrong but was not told anything adding that Sharif’s cardiologist was also called from Lahore to assess the situation.

The PML-N leader also complained about not getting relief from courts on medical grounds.

Maryam elaborated that the six-weeks bail given to Nawaz by the Supreme Court was only enough to get all his tests conducted and a bypass surgery could not be performed.

The politician stated in clear terms that this is not Egypt and ‘Nawaz is not Mohammad Mursi’.

Charter of Economy

Maryam Nawaz took a different stance than party president on the issue of the charter of economy and said signing such a deal would be equivalent to giving an NRO to the ruling party.

“It is however for the leadership to decide what will be PML-N’s next plan of action,” she clarified.

In a tweet, Maryam clarified that he had no differences with Shehbaz Sharif as it was her personal stance regarding the charter of economy.
