Major Ishaq laid to rest with full military honour

LAHORE – The funeral prayers for martyred Major Ishaq – the army officer who lost his life in the line of duty during a search operation was performed at Ayub Stadium in Lahore on Thursday.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Corps Commander Lahore Lt. General Amir Riaz, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and other civil-military officials attended the prayer after which Major was laid to rest with full military honours at the Shauda Qabristan at Cavalry Ground.

The 28-year-old soldier embraced martyrdom in an exchange of fire during a search operation at a terrorist hideout in Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday.

He belonged to Khushab, Punjab, and is survived by a widow and an infant.

The funeral prayer of the valiant soldier was also held at Dera Ismail Khan, and was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and other high-ranking officials, including Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Nazir Butt.

The news of major Ishaq’s martyrdom disclosed by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major Asif Ghafoor stirred sorrow across the country.

The martyred official is the fourth officer to be killed in the line of duty in the past three months.
