Nisar postpones important press conference in wake of Lahore tragedy

ISLAMABAD – In the wake of a deadly attack on Lahore’s Ferozepur Road that killed at least 20 people, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday postponed his much-awaited press conference again.

Just a day after he postponed his press conference scheduled on Sunday, Nisar briefly talked to the media and condemned the attack adding that though the press conference was of great significance, it was not possible for him to discuss the political situation in the wake of casualties caused by an explosion in Lahore.

“I have been ill but I would rather go back today than discuss politics while a tragedy has hit the country.”

“I was bedridden for the past two days and saw a number of speculations in the media about my condition. I would like for you all to keep those at bay and focus on the matter at hand — the Lahore blast.”

Earlier on Monday,  Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s spokesman, Musadik Malik said on Monday that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan would not leave the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) nor would he resign from the federal cabinet.

Earlier, rumours were afloat that Nisar is considering to quit the PML-N as media reports said that the interior minister did not attend Friday’s crucial meeting of the PML-N’s parliamentary party headed by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
