ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s biggest Faisal Mosque in Islamabad went pink on Monday as a part of month-long breast cancer awareness campaign being observed across the globe.
The move to light up the mosque was organised by the Pink Ribbon in collaboration with CDA as the month of October is renamed as ‘PINKtober’ to aware people of the breast cancer with numerous activities to spread awareness about the disease.
Apart from lighting up the mosque’s dome and minarets, an event was organised at Faisal Mosque’s lawn where the participants were apprised of different symptoms of ‘curable’ disease.
Earlier, this month, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the parliament house in the capital went pink.
Last year Pink Ribbon Campaign, in collaboration with Government of Pakistan, National History and Literary Heritage Division and administration of Mazar-i-Quaid, had illuminated one of the most sanctified places in the country — the Mazar-i-Quaid.
Moreover, multiple buildings of historical impression in Lahore sported the pink colour including the Minar-e-Pakistan and Wapda House.
According to the figures presented by Pink Ribbon, over 40,000 women die annually in Pakistan due to breast cancer and the total number of victims surpass 90,000.
