ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan declared on Tuesday that the reports submitted by joint investigation teams tasked to probe the Panama Papers and fake bank accounts cases served as case studies in how states fail.
The premier felt perplexed at those defending ‘plunderers’ even after having gone through the reports.
Imran Khan – who had filed a petition to probe into the Panama Papers case – said the scale and methods used to “siphon off public money” were “incredulous and mind-boggling”.

“I am puzzled & perplexed by those who, despite having read the two reports, are still defending the plunderers,” the premier added.
The remarks came a day after the accountability court in Islamabad sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, acquitting him in the Flagship Investment reference.

The same day, a JIT report submitted in the Supreme Court held the Zardari and Omni groups responsible in the mega money laundering and fake accounts case though the respondents have been asked to submit their response.

The Supreme Court also issued a notice to Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and order the authorities to freeze the properties of Omni Group.
The investigation report revealed that Zardari and Omni Group were responsible in the mega money laundering and fake accounts case.
It further stated that money was transferred through fake accounts for the construction of Bilawal Houses in Karachi and Lahore, adding that monthly expenditure of Bilawal’s family was paid by these companies.
