No law can halt ex-dictator Musharraf’s trial in treason case, says Nawaz

ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf could not evade the trial in treason case as it will reach the logical conclusion.

Talking to journalists outside the accountability court, he stated, “the trial against former military dictator cannot be stopped under any law, adding that this a serious case which cannot be taken back.”

It may take a day or six months but the treason case will reach its logical conclusion, Nawaz said. He went on to say that Musharraf was not returning to Pakistan as he knew it was an open and shut case.

Referring to his regular appearance in the accountability court, he said that the dictator is absconding while an elected PM had to appear before the court 70 times.

Where is the fist which Musharraf used to show in the parliament, he asked?

The three-time prime minister also took on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, saying that latter had used insulting terms for the parliament. “Imran is taking full advantage of the parliament, even though he cursed it,” Nawaz claimed.

On Thursday, the former premier clarified that it was the court, not the government which allowed Musharraf to travel abroad.

On Wednesday, Nawaz Sharif claimed that a message from the head of an intelligence agency was conveyed to him during 2014 sit-ins that he should resign or go on an extended leave.

He said that challenges and pressure ramped up on him as the treason case was initiated against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. He added that corruption references against him were the punishment of the case against Musharraf.
