Punjab launches hybrid double-decker buses: Check routes

Punjab Launches Hybrid Double Decker Buses Check Routes

In a significant stride towards modernizing public transportation and promoting tourism, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched hybrid double-decker buses, marking the first time such vehicles have taken to the roads in Pakistan.

During the launch ceremony, Chief Minister Nawaz announced that five hybrid double-decker buses will operate on new routes in Lahore, specifically designed to enhance the city’s appeal as a tourist destination. Additionally, one double-decker bus will be added to the fleets in Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi, with plans for similar services to be introduced in Multan and Faisalabad.

The Chief Minister, who took a ride on one of the new buses, emphasized the importance of these environmentally friendly vehicles for the future of metropolitan tourism in Punjab. “These modern buses are not just a means of transport; they are a part of our commitment to providing a sustainable and enjoyable experience for both locals and visitors,” she stated.

The briefing provided during the ceremony highlighted that the double-decker bus service had its roots in the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (TDCP), which initiated a similar service in November 2015 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. This latest addition will cater to a diverse audience, including academics, diplomats, state guests, corporate sectors, celebrities, and the general public, enabling them to explore various tourist attractions.

In Lahore, three new tourist bus routes have been planned, connecting Qaddafi Stadium to several notable sightseeing locations, further integrating public transport with the city’s rich cultural and historical offerings.

With this initiative, the Punjab government aims not only to enhance public transport but also to invigorate the tourism sector, creating a more vibrant and accessible urban environment for everyone.
