KARACHI – An anti-terrorism court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Muttahida Qaumi Movement founder Altaf Hussain and other absconders in a case pertaining to the anti-Pakistan diatribe on August 22 and the violence that followed it.
The court which has issued the warrants for the second time has directed authorities to arrest the absconders and present them before court by November 25.
During today’s hearing, the investigation officer argued that a request seeking a joint investigation team had been sent to the interior ministry and so the JIT would be formulated after permission is granted.
He maintained that the team will also probe MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar and party leader Amir Khan.
This is not the first time that the warrants against London-based leader have been issued as an ATC in Islamabad found Altaf Hussain an absconder and issued permanent arrest warrants in September.
The cases against MQM leaders were registered after the part workers stormed different television channels followed by the inciting telephonic speech of MQM founder.
MQM workers were staging a hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club when the founder addressed them and made anti-state remarks and urged party workers to attack media over what he claimed was less coverage to him.
