LAHORE (Web Desk) – Punjab and Sindh are all set for the first phase of the local bodies elections to be held in 12 districts of Punjab and 8 districts of Sindh tomorrow (Saturday).
The time for candidates to campaign ended at midnight, and tomorrows vote will decide if the candidates were successful in securing the voters confidence, whether the community-vote system will prevail or if the party the candidate is aligned with will do the trick.
A large number of independent candidates are also contesting in the local government elections.
Voting will commence at 7:30AM and will end at 5:30PM.
The distribution of election material began on Friday morning.
For Lahore, 3,500 polling stations have been set up and the designated election officials are being handed over material for their respective polling stations, including ballot boxes, lists and ballots. The material is being delivered under the watchful eye of the Punjab police.
A total of 32,000 will be on ground officiating the election on Saturday when 4.44 million voters will cast their votes.
According to election commission, out of 270 union councils (UC) in Lahore, chairmen and vice chairmen for four UCs have been elected unopposed, therefore 270 UC’s will be voting for their chairman and vice chairman while 274 UC’s will be electing their councilors.
In Sindh, 350 polling stations have been declared extremely sensitive, while 328 have been declared sensitive where army personnel and paramilitary force personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order from the 30th till the 31st of October.
In this first phase, voters will elect chairmen and vice chairmen of the union councils, as well as the members of the district council.
