ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to initiate formal investigation against former chairman NADRA Imtiaz Tajwar for alleged irregularities committed during his tenure.
The interior minister, who was chairing a board meeting here also ordered FIA to investigate within a week the matter of a rented building hired for National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office in Islamabad besides the renovation estimates given by NESPAK causing gross financial dent to the office.
“I am troubled by the fact that NADRA has taken a rented building for Rs 4.5 million per month and has already paid advance rent for 18 months with shady contract clauses,” he stated.
Chaudhry Nisar said it was sad to know that public money was doled out for just shifting NADRA offices to a location in Islamabad, where NADRA had been paying the rent since March 2016 and still its staff was yet to move to the new rented premises.
“It is also mind boggling to look at the renovation cost put in by NESPAK and the matter needed immediate investigation by the FIA,” he said.
“The FIA should investigate the matter and submit a detailed report within a week,” he added.
Taking stock of financial and administrative mismanagement in NADRA, the minister with the consent of NADRA board, also formed two committees comprising senior officials from the ministry and NADRA board members to review the financial and administrative powers of chairman and senior management of NADRA.
The committees would give a way forward for better financial and administrative measures that would be put in place for transparent and efficient working of NADRA.
