LAHORE (Web Desk) – Afghanistan Cricket Team’s tour to Pakistan in the second week of April has been postponed due to security reasons, NewsOne TV reported on Thursday.
According to detail, Afghanistan Cricket Board has called off its team’s Pakistan visit next month due to security concerns, the tour now may take place in September this year.
On the other hand, head of ICC Executive Committee Giles Clarke’s Pakistan visit has also been called off. He was due in Pakistan next week to monitor security arrangements for World XI’s Pakistan tour.
Afghanistan had set up a short camp in Pakistan in 2015, under former coach Kabir Khan. They stayed at the Country Club Karachi and played several matches against departmental teams before heading for the Inter-Continental Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has postponed the scheduled tour of Afghanistan due to internal security situation, Samaa TV reported while quoting an Afghan cricket official.
Shafiqullah Stanikzai, CEO of Afghan Cricket Board (ACB), said that Afghanistan was still willing to tour Pakistan on the security clearance.
“If we still receive security clearances from PCB, we are willing to come to Pakistan,” he said.
“Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not get the clearance from their own security department, leading to the postponement of the tour,” he said.
The PCB later admitted that the tour was put on hold in the wake of park bombing in Lahore.
