KARACHI – The Sindh High Court on Monday accepted a petition seeking removal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr. Arif Alvi as the President of Pakistan.
The petition was moved by a citizen Azmat Rehan in which he has accused the president of tampering with court records. He stated that Alvi was ineligible to become the Head of State.
He claimed that the PTI leader had thrice changed his statement in court during hearings of a 1977 case against him pertaining to the Alvia Trust.
He further said that the PTI leader acquired ownership of 1,810 acres of land near Hawkes Bay beach by submitting incorrect documents in the court.
The petition said that the current chief justice of the high court had also issued an order against Alvi earlier.

The court issued notices to the respondents, including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government, directing them to submit their replies by January 1.

Dr. Arif Alvi had taken oath as Pakistan’s 13th head of state in a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on September 9.
