Pakistan president pays rich tribute to Mirza Ghalib

ISLAMABAD – President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said that the living nations recognize the wonders and excellence of their renowned personalities, which not only help protect their cultural traditions but also transfer the same to coming generations.

“We believe that our government besides transferring our rich cultural and literary traditions and vision to the coming generations will also play its effective role in introducing this asset at national and international landscape,” he said while speaking at a Mehfil-e-Mushaira here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The Mushaira titled “Ghalib Naam Aawaram” was organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in connection with the birth anniversary of renowned and great poet Asadullah Khan Ghalib.

The president said though Mushaira was not a complete creative literary activity, yet it had contributed a lot in the delivery of poetry to common people, and if it was encouraged, poetry could play an effective in today’s world as well.

Describing Asadullah Khan Ghalib as “The Crown-less King of Urdu Poetry”, he paid tributes to the great poet for promoting Urdu Ghazal and literature through his special and unmatched poetic style and skills.

The president thanked the minister and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for organising the Mushaira at Aiwan-e-Sadr and hoped that more such programs would be arranged in other areas of art and culture as well to protect and promote our traditions.

He said the holding of such events during this era of political hustle bustle help create a balance in the society as well as a feeling of mental and spiritual satisfaction.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain also addressed the event which was attended among others by the country’s renowned poets including Anwar Masood, Iftikhar Arif, Tauseef Tabassum, Sehr Ansari, Amjad Islam Amjad, Anwar Shaoor, Ahsan Akbar, Naseer Turabi, Riaz Majeed, Jalil Aali, Nusrat Zaidi, Haleem Qureshi, Yasmeen Hameed, Nazeer Tabassum, Anjum Saleemi, Fatima Hassan, Qamar Raza Shehzad, Hameeda Shaheen, Akhtar Usman, Baram Ghauri, Shakir Hussain Shakir and Mohsin Shakeel who presented their poetry.
