Maryam refreshes demand for Nawaz Sharif s treatment, announces protest outside Kot Lakhpat jail

LAHORE – Maryam Nawaz has announced that she will stand outside Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail in what can be attributed as a protest for provision of medical care to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

In a series of Tweets on Friday, Maryam Nawaz announced that the former premier had pain in the flanks, complaining that even the doctor sent to examine him was made to wait for two hours outside the jail.

Maryam stated that if Nawaz Sharif’s renal functions are not checked for any further deterioration and if she and his doctor are not allowed access to him, she will go and stand outside the jail tomorrow (Saturday) till the access is granted.

Hours after the first tweet, Maryam shared that blood samples to check Nawaz Sharif’s renal function have been collected, hoping to receive the results.

When a party loyalist asked whether party workers should gather outside the jail as well, Maryam replied in the negative.

‘MNS has asked the to call off the protest/gathering on 23rd & wants all of us to celebrate Pakistan Day wherever we are,’ she said.

In a fresh request to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) today, MPA Malik Nadeem Kamran, the Senior Vice President PML-N Punjab, stated that denying access to Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician and his daughter is a denial of his fundamental rights.

He requested that Dr Adnan and Maryam Nawaz Sharif should be granted immediate access to the supreme leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz on medical grounds.

On the other hand, the spokesman to Chief Minister Dr.Shahbaz Gill said that PML-N was doing politics on the health of Nawaz Sharif. He said that Maryam Nawaz intends to get political mileage on the health of her father.

While giving his reaction in a video-statement on the tweet of Maryam Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif, Dr. Shahbaz Gill said that doctors had checked the blood pressure of Nawaz Sharif in jail which was 90/140. However, he is quite fit.

The ex-premier was sent to seven years behind bars in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference by the accountability court in Islamabad in December last year.

Nawaz Sharif was also convicted in the Avenfiled reference by the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir, however, he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

The three-time prime minister has been relocated between Kot Lakhpat Jail and hospital multiple times on the recommendation of the medical board, however, he is now refusing to be relocated to any hospital.
