Fawad Ch, Saudi minister agree to form working group on culture

RIYADH – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain held second round of talks with Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan on Thursday at the Ministry of Culture here and agreed to explore opportunities for cooperation in the culture sector.

The minister was accompanied by Ambassador Ali Ijaz Raja and Director General Internal Publicity Wing Sohail Ali Khan while the Saudi culture minister was assisted by senior officials of the ministry.

Both the sides agreed to form a working group of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to explore the possibilities of collaboration in film-making, drama production and performing arts. The working group will also identify the areas of cooperation in the field of performing arts, fashion designing and training of the artists.

During the meeting, details of memorandum of understanding between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in the field of cultural cooperation were also finalized.

The Saudi minister proposed participation of Pakistani artists, musicians and persons from performing arts in different events being organized by Saudi Arabia in coming days. He also underlined the need to get benefit from the experience of Pakistani experts in working out different strategies and policies.

Prince Badr also showed interest in calligraphic work by Pakistani artists. Fawad Hussain thanked the Saudi minister for showing interest in close cooperation with Pakistan and promised that a group of musicians and artists would visit and perform in Saudi Arabia in the month of April.

At the end, the minister extended invitation to Saudi Minister Prince Badr to visit Pakistan so that he can witness the rich cultural heritage and meet Pakistani artists, musicians, singers and also attend different performances to know the progress made by Pakistan in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. The Saudi minister accepted the invitation.
