NAB summons Shehbaz Sharif, sons in money laundering case on April 9

ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif with his sons – Hamza Shehbaz and Salman Shehbaz – on April 9 in a money laundering case.

The anti-corruption watchdog directed Sharifs in its notice to appear before the bureau with complete documents.

The NAB sources revealed that PML-N president will be inquired about his assets and sources of income. Furthermore, the NAB has also asked Shehbaz Sharif to give details of the property that he inherited from his father, Muhammad Sharif.

Earlier today, officials of the anti-corruption watchdog carried out an unsuccessful raid to arrest Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz – Shehbaz Sharif’s son – at his Model Town residence for alleged involvement in money laundering.

A press release by NAB said a team had gone to the residence to arrest Hamza Shehbaz on the basis of evidence against him in the assents beyond means and alleged money laundering case.

The statement added that NAB officials were manhandled by Hamza’s security guards, their clothes were torn and death threats were given.

NAB officials claims they had an arrest warrant and the Supreme Court had stated that the accountability bureau did not require to inform any accused prior to arresting them.

According to the NAB statement, Hamza Shehbaz had violated the law and the bureau on the basis of evidence against and in light of Supreme Court directives would arrest him.

On the other hand, Hamza’s lawyer said that the Lahore High Court had ordered the NAB to inform the PML-N leader at least 10 days prior to arresting him.

Hamza Shahbaz is facing two corruption cases, including owning assets beyond known sources of income and Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that a seven to eight member NAB team raided Shehbaz Sharif’s residence without any prior notice or warrant.
